Medical Oncology
Medical oncology is the specialty of internal medicine that deals with the diagnosis and management of the treatment of all types of cancer. Hematology deals with diseases and disorders of the blood and bone marrow. Medical oncology/hematology services are directed by board-certified physicians who are recognized for their experience and expertise in diagnostic and therapeutic cancer care.
Treatments
All prescribed cancer treatments follow accepted medical protocols. Chemotherapy is mixed on-site to physician-directed specifications and administered by certified oncology nurses in a dedicated, chemotherapy infusion area that offers privacy and comfort. Our in-house lab and draw-station allow for comprehensive care in a single location. A certified oncology nurse is available to address the needs of patients who are not scheduled to be seen by a physician but who request assistance. An oncology clinical nurse specialist provides additional care for patients receiving oncology care at Saint Joseph Hospital, including the diagnostic phase, initiation of chemotherapy and problematic issues.

Chemotherapy Suites
Outpatient chemotherapy and other infusion services are administered in the center’s spacious new Chemotherapy Suites, a facility designed and furnished with the goal of patient comfort. Certified oncology nursing staff monitors each patient during treatment from the open nurses station. While their loved ones relax in the waiting area, patients may receive their chemotherapy in on of five private “bedrooms” or interact with other patients in comfortable recliners. Televisions are easily viewed from each location.
